Part clown, part dance, part performance, part (re)learning play lab, muck AND gold was born on a river bank from a culmination of years of being in creating, performing and teaching. We are passionate about the experience one has in the process of making something original. We love to play with the movement of emotions, theater, objects, sound, and writing to find creative ways of existing and evolving. We offer unique classes, workshops and performances rooted in experimentation, collaboration and self-discovery.
Chris' evolving ideas:
As a movement artist, I make physical acts with the body as originator and instigator for ideas. I love the risk of improvisation, embrace the fear of not knowing what will be created or destroyed. The human/animal world, objects, natural spaces and interior shadow world where emotions are hiding are my playground to find my full full awkward, ugly, timid, surly, raging, sad, joyous, vulnerable 360 degree self. As Carl Jung says, “I’d rather be whole than good.”

As a teacher, I hope to expand people’s perceptions of their body’s potential for movement and the wisdom it offers them. Ways I might do this: demonstrate non-linear movement through everyday actions - walking, turning, kicking, reaching, sitting then add elements from modern dance, asana, physical theater, theatrical clown, somatic breathing and sounding exercises. I encourage open exploration of movement not only to engage all of our (600+) muscles within your own range of motion but to experience the your limitless range of (e)motions through humor and creativity that naturally come out of this play with the body.

From birth, humans naturally engage in creating through their emotions, movement, sound and make-believe play. If we nurture this ability then, self-confidence, harmony with others, problem solving to name a few, will continue as life long skills. We tend to lose this ability when we are told to not feel or trust our emotions and how, what and why to think.
Improvisation and play - physically responding to the world around us without the mind leading all the time, brings us back to the world of imagination and an embodied way of being present with all of our relationships within us and with others.
Scott's evolving ideas:
As a teacher, I believe the best, most authentic kind of learning is self-directed where the student meets the learning on her own terms.  The student decides what, when and how to learn.  Most importantly, the “why” of the learning comes from the student.  The purpose is always clearly obvious.   The learning is real and practical and most importantly comes from a student’s interests and passions.  Furthermore, there is no separation between learning and life.  The two are one in the same. Check out some of his writings too.
